2017 Freestyle State Tournament Information

Tournament Notes: Once your weigh-in is complete, you CANNOT change weight classes.
2-man brackets will wrestle ONE BOUT (No best 2 of 3).
No exhibition matches are allowed.
When: May 6th and 7th
Where: Armory - University of Illinois (Click on facility name for map)
Eligibility: Illinois residents only. Wrestlers must hold a current USA Wrestling athlete membership.
Age Groups: Junior, Cadet, Schoolboy, Novice, Intermediate, and Bantam.

Entry Fee: Pre-registration (Online): $35 (ends Wednesday, May 3rd, 10 pm)
On-site: $50 (No registration accepted at satellite weigh-in sites.)
Registration: Must have a current USA Wrestling athlete membership to register. Click HERE to purchase a membership.

Friday, May 5th, Champaign Central HS (Enter off Park St, North side of bldg.), 5:30 pm to 7 pm.
Saturday, May 6th, Armory-Champaign (Room 136), 7 am to 7:30 am
Coaching: All coaches are required to hold a current USA Wrestling coaches membership.
Rules: UWW with USA Wrestling Modifications.
Uniforms: All wrestlers are required to compete with a RED and a BLUE singlet (reversible RED/BLUE singlet is allowed.)

1) Previous (Any previous year) Cadet or Junior Freestyle All-Americans (from Fargo only).
2) 2016 Cadet or Junior Freestyle National Team Members.
3) 2016 Cadet or Junior Freestyle State Place winners.
4) 2016 Schoolboy Freestyle State Place winners.
5) Team Members.
Schoolboy, Novice, Intermediate, & Bantam:
1) 2016 Freestyle State Place winners.
2) Team members.
Awards: Cadet and Junior: Medals for 1st through 4th place.
Schoolboy, Novice, Intermediate, and Bantam:
Medals for 1st through 6th place.
Tournament Format: Vertical Pairing (generally speaking, it is a double elimination tournament)
Cadet & Junior (No 5th place bouts):
Weight classes with 5 or less wrestlers - one pool
Weight classes with 6 or more wrestlers - two pools (A & B) with semifinal crossover. Winner of pool A will wrestle 2nd placer in pool B in first semifinal crossover. Winner of pool B will wrestle 2nd placer in pool A in second semifinal crossover. Winners in semifinal crossover bouts will wrestle for 1st place in the weight class, defeated wrestlers in the semifinal crossover will wrestle for 3rd place in the weight class.
Schoolboy/girl, Novice, Intermediate, & Bantam:
Weight classes with 5 or less wrestlers - one pool
Weight classes with 6 or more wrestlers - two pools (A & B) with winner of each pool wrestling for 1st place in the weight class, 2nd place winner in each pool wrestling for 3rd place in the weight class, and 3rd place in each pool wrestling for 5th place in the weight class.
Please note: Duplicate bouts WILL NEVER occur in a vertically paired tournament. Results from the pool are always moved forward to the round robin and, if applicable, to the 1st and 3rd place bouts in any given weight class and/or results from the round robin are always moved to forward to the 1st and 3rd place bouts in any given weight class.
Qualifies you for: Cadet - Top two (2) place winners qualify for the Cadet National Freestyle Championships.
Junior - Top two (2) place winners qualify for the Junior National Freestyle Championships.
